Handmade, machined and experimental details for the first-generation Daihatsu Copen (L880K // L881K).
# The idea
CopenWorks began with my own L881K and a list of details I wanted to feel different: more tactile, more purposeful and more personal.
Every project starts as a one-off experiment in spare hours. The pieces that work become drawings, prototypes and stories worth sharing with other Copen owners.

View project# The process
Start with a detail on the car that could look, fit or feel better.
Capture complex geometry with laser 3D scanning, then turn measurements into CAD, machined aluminium or weather-ready ASA-CF.
Fit it to the real car, live with it and refine the awkward bits.
Document the final build honestly so another owner can understand it.
# Behind the projects
Software engineer by trade. Relentless tinkerer whenever the laptop closes.
I have owned my L881K since 2022. What began as a few changes to give the car more character quickly became another engineering rabbit hole—one involving CAD, machining, printing, sanding and a suspicious amount of test fitting.
CopenWorks is where I keep that work and share it with the small but wonderfully enthusiastic community around this car.
I’m especially interested in the space between digital design and physical making—turning an awkward problem or half-formed idea into something that can be fitted, tested and improved. The Copen is where this journey started, but not where it has to end. If you have an unusual automotive idea worth exploring, I’m always happy to talk.
